ABOUT ME

Welcome to Portals to Self. My name is Fahmida Elena Lam, and one of my many passions is transformational personal growth. My practice brings together more than a decade of experience in transformational growth through embodiment, awakening consciousness and reconnection with the spirit.

My life feels in alignment since I started sharing my practice with the world. My work brings together three deeply personally transformative modalities: Core Energetics, Internal Family Systems (IFS) coaching and Breathwork. Each of these practices has touched my life in meaningful ways, and together they form the foundation of the work I offer. These approaches are not just tools—they are pathways, or portals, to a deeper understanding and connection with Self.

My life has included professional corporate achievements in financial services and media agencies, to re-inventing myself as a furniture designer in production, and custom residential design and decor. My educational paper trail includes BS in Finance and Economics, Masters in Industrial Design, Certified in Breath work and IFS coaching. And almost completed my 4 year certification in Core Energetics. I am also a mother, a wife, a sister and a daughter. My hobbies include reading about everything related to personal growth and ancestral healing practices. I spend time at the wood shop making things for my home, and I love making pottery, nature arrangements from things Mother Earth gifts me, I love working out and planning trips near and far with my family.

  • I started my journey of healing and embodiment 20 years ago when I started Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Art). It is much more than just a martial art or dance. It is a living expression of resistance, connection and spiritual presence. Capoeira is a profound and dynamic embodiment practice that weaves together ritual, community, history, movement, rhythm and spirit. Capoeira became for me, the beginning of a healing practice for my body, mind and soul.

As my life began to shift I started a deeper exploration of my body and this lead to my 15 year journey with Core Energetics, a body based, somatic healing modality. Through Core Energetics I found a deeper understanding of emotions and energy my body was suppressing and blocking. As I intentionally began to free the energy stuck in my body, my life shifted even further. I began to embody a more authentic version of myself and created a life in more alignment with my truth.

Ten years ago I became a mother and this was the most dramatic life changing event in my life. I found my nervous system in a state that was unfamiliar to me. My body which I had spent years learning and knowing was suddenly a stranger to me again. And here began my journey of exploring my nervous system, trauma, epigenetic, my ancestry, spirituality and again sought out community and ritual. Through explorations in altered states of consciousness I found my way back to myself. I understood what it meant to break patterns in my lineage. I was able to reset my nervous system, quiet my mind, and cultivate a place of self love. I learned to connect with my spirit and followed the trail heads to a deep exploration of The Self.

My journey lead me to Breathwork and IFS (Internal Family Systems) practices. Breathwork became a place of deep release, clearing my vessel and connection to my inner wisdom. A place beyond the psyche that could guide and nurture me. I had been connecting to The Self for some time but I was really unsure of what it was or how to reconnect to “this place”. “This place” of ease, creativity, clarity, courage, confidence, curiosity, compassion, connection, love… Through IFS as a connection to The Self and Breathwork, I found my map to my inner healer. The wisdom keeper. Loving me unconditionally. Whole and intact.

And so here I am. Continuously doing the work and acknowledging the discomfort in growing at times. I, like everyone else is in continuous change. I welcome opportunities to grow and heal. I am grateful for the tools I have developed to work through things. My life feels in alignment with my work, my practices and my pursuits. And My work brings together deeply transformative modalities that continue to support my transformation and form the foundation of the work I offer.
